Please Help with Donations for a FAST Family!

Ellen Hunter, mom to three of our swimmers, Hannah, Maddie, and Max, has been diagnosed with cancer for the third time in four years. While she is undergoing treatment, the Hunter family could greatly use our help with meals.

A benefit fund at Home State Bank has been established in Ellen's name to purchase meals through the Dinner Fork. Checks for donations can be written to The Ellen Hunter Benefit Fund. You can give donations to any of the coaches or mail them directly to:

Thanks for your support!

Board Highlights from the April 29, 2008, Meeting

1) A decision was made to host quarterly open forum meetings where parents can direct questions to board members. The hope is that these meetings will foster dialogue on topics important to all FAST families. New FAST families are highly encouraged to attend the meetings as a way of becoming “plugged-in” to the team. Look for a future announcement regarding the exact date and time of first meeting…likely sometime in June. The second meeting will be held toward the end of September.

2) There are currently 80 FAST swimmers committed to attending the travel meet making this year’s event the largest in team history.

3) Fall Registration – A plan was discussed to allow ALL FAST swimmers who were part of the team during the 07-08 season, including those who didn’t swim during the summer, to re-register one week prior to open registration. More information will be forthcoming on this plan as it is finalized.

4) Jim Malone is heading up an effort to secure “bulk head pullers” for summer long course practices. If you are interested in helping with this effort, please contact Jim at jajmalone@comcast.net.

5) Are you planning to watch the Olympic Games in August? Would you be interested in joining together with other FAST swimmers and parents to watch a night of Olympic swimming? Lance Holter (lholter@frii.com) is soliciting input on a potential OLYMPIC SWIMMING WATCHING PARTY. Tentatively, the party is scheduled for Wednesday August 13th. The swimming events that night include: Men’s 100m Freestyle Semifinal, Women’s 200 Freestyle Final, Men’s 200 Butterfly Final, Women’s 200 Butterfly Semi-Final, Men’s 200m Breast Semifinal, Women’s 200 IM Final, and the Men’s 4x200 Freestyle Relay. The number of people interested will dictate the facility where the event will be held. If you have any interest in such a gathering, please email Lance.

LET'S GET WET- Swimmer 101 for Parents!

The coaches are excited to share their swimming knowledge with the parents! Previous swimming experience is not required to participate in the class. Just come with a desire to gain first hand knowledge that will make you a better swim parent. If you plan on attending, please contact Lance Holter at lholter@frii.com or 229-9339, so the proper number of pool lanes can be secured.

You will need to pay the drop in swimmer fee at the Epic front desk to participate. Please bring your own goggles and swim caps. Plan to gather in the stands for some light stretching before getting in the water at 7:15pm.

The second and third classes are scheduled for Wednesday April 23rd and Wednesday May 21st at 7:00pm.
